Delhi Police denies gunshot injury claim in CJP's July 20 protest

Delhi Police on Wednesday rejected claims circulating on social media that a woman protester sustained a gunshot injury during the July 20 protest in central Delhi, saying the allegation is not supported by her medico-legal certificate (MLC).

In a statement, the police said the MLC prepared at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on July 20 recorded a lacerated wound in front of the right tragus, with the nature of the injury classified as blunt. Doctors also described the injury as simple and found no evidence of a gunshot wound.

"The claim of gunshot injury is not supported by the medical findings on the MLC," the statement said, urging the public to verify information through authentic sources before sharing such claims.

Police said the woman was examined at RML Hospital on the day of the protest, where doctors prepared the official MLC. The document, which forms the basis for further legal action in criminal cases, did not mention any gunshot injury, a senior police officer said.

According to police sources, the woman later visited a private hospital in Gurugram, where another medical document was prepared.

Calling the allegations "baseless", Delhi Police said the original MLC clearly recorded a simple blunt-force injury near the right ear and did not indicate any gunshot wound.
