Delhi HC, IGI Airport T3 receive bomb threats via email ahead of I-Day, declared hoax

The Delhi High Court and the Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport received bomb threats via email on Friday, triggering security checks at the two high-profile locations a day ahead of Independence Day.

The threats prompted multiple security agencies to conduct searches of the premises. Bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, fire department personnel and local police teams were deployed as authorities stepped up security across the national capital.

The Delhi High Court received a threat email earlier in the day, following which its Registrar General contacted the Delhi Police for assistance. Court sources said the email contained a reference to "blast Delhi High Court @ 2:11 pm".

Joint Secretary of the Delhi High Court, Advocate Kunal, said the threat appeared to be a hoax and that the situation was under control.

"The bomb threat appears to be fake... Everything is under control. Bomb squad and sniffer dogs are scanning the entire premises. There is no threat as of now," Advocate Kunal told ANI.

Security agencies also carried out checks at IGI Airport's Terminal 3 after a bomb threat was received by email. The threats were declared hoaxes after searches found nothing suspicious, according to officials.

The Delhi Fire Department said at least five locations in the capital had received bomb threat calls, with fire vehicles sent to all the spots. No suspicious object was recovered during the checks, officials said.

The email threat received by the high court purportedly originated from Babar Khalsa Canada and contained references to Khalistan, according to the information available so far.

The threats come as Delhi remains on heightened alert ahead of Independence Day, with security agencies conducting checks at government installations and other sensitive locations.

Police and security agencies are continuing their investigation into the source of the threats.
