Delhi witnesses warmest August night-time temp in 3 years

New Delhi: Delhi witnessed the warmest August night-time temperatures in three years on Monday, with the minimum temperature at the city's base station in Safdarjung settling at 28.4 deg Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The same station recorded the maximum temperature at 35.6 degrees Celsius, 1.2 notches above normal.

Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius, 0.5 notches below normal, while Lodhi Road registered 34.8 degrees Celsius, 1.8 notches above the seasonal average.

Among the weather stations, the Ridge recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius, 0.5 notches below normal, while Ayanagar logged 34 degrees Celsius, 0.4 notches below normal.

Light rainfall was reported in parts of the city during the day, with 13.3 mm recorded at Ayanagar between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, while the Ridge received trace rainfall. No rainfall was recorded during the period at Safdarjung, Palam and Lodhi Road.

Earlier, the minimum temperature at Safdarjung, the city's primary weather station, was 28.4 degrees Celsius, Palam was 26.2 degrees Celsius, 1.2 notches above normal, while Lodhi Road recorded 27.8 degrees Celsius, 2 notches above the season's average.

Among other stations, Ridge recorded a minimum of 24.4 degrees Celsius, 2.1 notches above normal, while Ayanagar registered 27.5 degrees Celsius, 1.1 notches above normal.

The city also recorded light rainfall activity over the past 24 hours, with trace rainfall at Safdarjung and Palam, 0.4 mm at Lodhi Road, 3.0 mm at Ridge and 6.8 mm at Ayanagar, recorded till 8.30 am.

Delhi's 24-hour average air quality at 4 pm was recorded in the 'satisfactory' category with the average air quality index (AQI) being clocked at 76, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.

For Tuesday, IMD has predicted a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain and minimum and maximum temperatures between 24 and 32 degrees Celsius, respectively.
