Jodhpur, Coackroach Janta Party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka has backed the students of a government school in Rajasthan's Barmer who recently protested over a shortage of teachers, saying citizens must stand up for their rights.

Sharing a video of the protest on X, Ranka wrote, "We demand our rights. We do not beg from anyone."

Praising the students' determination, he added, "Keep at it. This is our country. Together we will set it right."

Students of the Government Senior Secondary School at Solankiyon Ki Dhani Bankalpura staged a dharna outside the school on July 27, along with their parents, alleging that a shortage of teachers was affecting their studies.

They claimed that despite repeated representations to the authorities, no concrete action had been taken. According to the students, nearly two months into the new academic session, the school continued to face an acute shortage of teaching staff.

Following the protest, District Education Officer Devaram Choudhary met the students and their parents.

After nearly two hours of discussions, the students withdrew their protest after being assured that three teachers would be deployed immediately and that subject-specific teachers would be appointed subsequently.

The protest was a repeat of a demonstration held on July 25. The students alleged that although officials had then assured them that teachers would be temporarily posted on deputation, the promise was not fulfilled, prompting them to resume their agitation on July 27.
