Guwahati: A Bihu troupe came under attack during a Durga Puja event in Assam’s Sribhumi district.

A group of people objected to Assamese songs being played in the Barak Valley.

Sources said that the group asked members of the troupe not to play Assamese songs in the Barak Valley. The troupe was allegedly assaulted. The members of the troupe sustained serious injuries in the incident.

The troupe had been invited to perform at the Durga Puja programme organised by Hindustan Club.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in X, “The news of an attack on a Bihu troupe in Sribhumi is deeply disturbing and unfortunate. Bihu is the soul of Assam, our pride and our identity. We will never tolerate any insult to our culture and heritage. I have directed the DGP Assam

to ensure immediate action against those responsible.”
