10 kg heroin, foreign-made weapons seized along Indo-Pak border in Bikaner, one held
Jaipur, Police in Rajasthan's Bikaner have seized 10 kg of heroin, 11 foreign-made weapons and ammunition estimated to be worth crores of rupees allegedly smuggled via drones from across the India-Pakistan border, officials said on Sunday.

Police also rounded up a suspect who had allegedly reached the spot to collect the consignment late Saturday night.

A joint team of the District Special Team (DST) and Khajuwala police carried out 'Operation Shock Wave' in the 8 KYD area along the international border under the supervision of Inspector General (IG) Om Prakash and Superintendent of Police (SP) Mridul Kachhawa.

"During the action, police recovered 10 kg of heroin, 11 foreign-made weapons, 22 magazines and 100 cartridges. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth crores of rupees," IG Prakash said at a press conference.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the recovered heroin has links to Afghanistan and was dropped using drones from across the international border, he said.

Police have rounded up one accused, identified as Virendra Singh, who had allegedly reached the spot to receive the consignment. A motorcycle used in the operation has also been seized, the IG said.

According to police, the consignment was being transported towards Punjab, but the plan was foiled in time.

SP Kachhawa said the success of the operation was due to effective coordination among security and intelligence agencies.

"The action was carried out with precision and vigilance under Operation Shock Wave. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections and further investigation has been handed over to Rural ASP B L Meena," he said.

According to the officials, the seizure is a major success in curbing cross-border smuggling of narcotics and arms ahead of Independence Day.
