"Kind of madness": Iran vows to target US, Israeli energy assets if attacked as Trump weighs fresh strikes
Iran has warned that it is fully prepared to target key Israeli infrastructure and American energy installations across the Middle East if it comes under attack, amid reports that Washington and Tel Aviv could be coordinating fresh military action against the Islamic Republic.

According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, a senior Iranian security official dismissed Western media reports about possible strikes on Iranian infrastructure as "a kind of madness".

'Iran fully prepared' for retaliation

The official told Tasnim that Tehran had drawn up comprehensive retaliatory plans targeting critical infrastructure in Israel as well as US energy assets across the region.

According to the official, Iran is "fully prepared" to carry out these plans if it is attacked.

The official also claimed that Iran's armed forces had already demonstrated their capabilities during the 40-day war and in subsequent military engagements.

Reports suggest Trump ordered preparations for strikes

The warning comes after reports that US President Donald Trump has ordered preparations for fresh military strikes on Iranian targets.

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials, President Trump has directed preparations for possible strikes that could begin as early as this weekend. The report said Iran had also been warned that it could face significant military action unless it returned to negotiations.

Trump says US will hit Iran 'very hard'

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David on Friday, US President Trump signalled that military action could be imminent.

"We'll be hitting them very hard," Trump said, adding that he believed Iran would eventually reach a point where it "just can't take it anymore".

Tensions raise fears of wider regional conflict

The sharp exchange of warnings has further heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, fuelling concerns that any fresh military action could escalate into a broader regional conflict.
