Alternative asset manager Brookfield said on Sunday it had opened an office in Doha anchored by its global credit platform as it deepens its presence in Qatar and expands across the Gulf region.

The Doha office will be anchored by Brookfield's global credit platform, including Oaktree, underscoring the growing role of private credit in financing Gulf economies.

The move deepens Brookfield's exposure to Qatar, including a $20 billion AI infrastructure investment programme with a QIA-backed AI company Qai.

Establishing a local presence gives Brookfield closer access to sovereign wealth funds, institutional investors and deal opportunities in what has been one of the region's fastest-growing investment markets.

Brookfield is the latest global investment firm to establish a presence in Qatar as asset managers expand local teams to capture investment opportunities across the Gulf.

One of the world's largest LNG exporters before the war, Qatar is trying to diversify its economy away from energy and attract foreign investment.
