US Stock Market: Regulatory filing shows Elon Musk owns 48.4% of SpaceX
Elon Musk owns a 48.4% stake in SpaceX, according to a regulatory filing, giving him more than 82% of the company’s voting power. His holding is valued at over $900 billion, highlighting his dominant control over the space and AI-focused company.

Musk’s SpaceX stake puts his ownership and voting power firmly in focus.
Musk owns 6.42 billion SpaceX shares and exercises sole voting and dispositive power over them, the filing showed. His holdings have given him more than 82% of the company's voting power since its June 12 public debut, underscoring his significant control over the rockets-to-AI company.
The stake includes 849.5 million Class A shares and 3.92 billion Class B shares held through trusts where Musk serves as trustee. It also comprises 1.30 billion restricted Class B shares held directly by Musk and 350 million Class B shares issuable upon the exercise of stock options.
SpaceX raised $85.7 billion in a record-setting initial public offering on June 12, pushing its market capitalisation above $2 trillion. The valuation has since pulled back as the initial investor enthusiasm cooled.
SpaceX shares fell nearly 33% through the end of July but have rebounded about 30% so far in August, supported by the company's quarterly results and the expiry of the first of several lockup restrictions.
Earlier this month, SpaceX reported its first quarterly results since going public. Revenue increased by more than 90%, while capital spending surged as the company continued to invest heavily in its space and artificial intelligence businesses, Reuters reported.
