Apple’s new iPhone Duo is already drawing attention for a worrying reason. Some owners are reporting broken inner displays, with cracks appearing near the hinge after very little use. Photos shared on Reddit and the MacRumors forums show similar damage, including bright lines running across the screen. The reports have raised questions about the foldable phone’s durability, although it is still too early to know how widespread the problem is. The inputs are taken from Mac Rumors and The Verge.

What is causing the iPhone Duo screen to crack?

One owner in Australia said his iPhone Duo broke just hours after he started using it. He estimated that he had opened the device fewer than 20 times when he noticed something unusual near the internal hinge.

He described the moment in a Reddit post:

“Had my iPhone Duo for about six hours and had probably opened it fewer than 20 times. I was showing it to a friend, and as I opened it, I felt something around the internal hinge, underneath the screen.

“As I continued opening it, I heard an audible crack, and the screen broke right along the hinge. There were no marks or damage on the inner screen's surface or the external hinge to suggest anything had been caught or damaged.”

The owner later visited an Apple Store, where the device was replaced immediately with a new unit.

Other images shared online show similar damage near the hinge, with bright lines appearing on the inner display. However, the circumstances behind several of these cases remain unclear, and accidental damage cannot be ruled out.

Are more iPhone Duo users reporting broken screens?

Several images of damaged display units have also surfaced in China, where the iPhone Duo went on sale before its US launch. Some early reviewers tried to fold the device times to see if the screen would have problems.

Those tests did not reveal failures but the number of devices involved was small. With more customers now getting their phones, additional reports may help show whether the damage points to a wider issue.

For now, there is no confirmed explanation for the cracks. Apple may collect defective devices to examine where the failures occurred and determine whether manufacturing changes are needed.

What happens if your iPhone Duo screen breaks?

Hinge failures caused by normal use should be covered by Apple's one-year warranty, according to the supplied information. Buyers also have two weeks to return their devices.

Until more cases emerge, the situation remains unclear whether the reported cracks are a problem or a broader durability concern. The similar location of the cracks has drawn attention. More evidence is needed to establish the cause.
