Sun Pharma Q1 Results: Profit rises 27% YoY to Rs 2,895 crore; revenue climbs 10.5%
Sun Pharma Q1 Results: Sun Pharma reported a 27% YoY rise in Q1 net profit to Rs 2,895 crore, while revenue grew 10% to Rs 15,300 crore, driven by strong performance in India and its innovative medicines business despite weak US formulations sales...

The profit growth was driven by strong performance in India and its global innovative medicines business, even as US formulations sales declined. EBITDA stood at Rs 4,418 crore, up 3% from a year earlier, while the EBITDA margin came in at 28.9%.
Sun Pharma MD Kirti Ganorkar said the quarter was driven by strong momentum in India and the innovative medicines business, which posted robust growth across the US and international markets. "Our performance during the quarter was driven by strong momentum in India as well as Innovative Medicines, which delivered robust growth across the US and international regions," Ganorkar said.
He added that recent semaglutide approvals in India, Brazil and South Africa demonstrated the company’s capabilities in complex peptide products. Ganorkar also said Organon shareholders had approved Sun Pharma’s proposed acquisition, which remains on track to close in early 2027.
Sun Pharma's India formulations business remained the strongest growth driver during the quarter. Sales in India stood at Rs 5,475 crore, up 16% YoY. The domestic formulations business accounted for 36.1% of total consolidated sales.
The company said it continues to be India's largest pharmaceutical company. Its market share increased to 8.5% from 8.2%, according to Pharmarack MAT June 2026 data.
Sun Pharma also retained the top rank by prescriptions across 12 doctor specialties, according to SMSRC data for March-June 2026.
The company launched five new products in the Indian market during the quarter.
The strong India performance helped offset weakness in the US generics business, where pricing pressure and competition continued to weigh on sales.
US business
The US remains a key market for Sun Pharma, but the numbers reflect a shift in its business mix. The company is increasingly relying on specialty and innovative medicines to reduce its dependence on lower-margin generics.
Emerging markets business
Emerging markets formulations sales stood at $311 million, up 4% from a year earlier. The segment accounted for 19.4% of total consolidated sales. Formulations sales in the Rest of the World markets stood at $218 million, accounting for 13.6% of total consolidated sales.
External sales of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) rose 10.5% YoY to Rs 597 crore. The company said its API portfolio supports both its formulations business and external customers across geographies.
Sun Pharma's research and development (R&D) investment stood at Rs 826 crore during the quarter, representing 5.4% of sales. The company said its R&D efforts span both its innovative and generic businesses. Its innovative pipeline includes five novel entities in the clinical stage.
In the US, Sun Pharma has approvals for 558 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs). Filings for 119 ANDAs are awaiting US FDA approval, including 28 tentative approvals.
During the quarter, the company filed three ANDAs and received approvals for six ANDAs.
