NSE Q1 Results: Profit rises 7% YoY to Rs 3,120 crore; revenue up 9%

NSE Q1 Results
The results come as NSE is preparing for its proposed initial public offering. The exchange has filed a draft red herring prospectus with Sebi.
NSE's consolidated revenue from transaction charges rose to Rs 3,623 crore in Q1FY27 from Rs 3,154 crore in Q1FY26. Revenue from data connectivity charges stood at Rs 258 crore. Operating investment income was Rs 234 crore, while revenue from data feed and terminal services stood at Rs 150 crore.
Total expenditure rose to Rs 1,129 crore from Rs 1,053 crore a year earlier. Despite the rise in expenses, NSE’s operating performance remained strong. Operating EBITDA stood at Rs 3,594 crore for the quarter. EBITDA margin was 79%, up 119 basis points year-on-year.
NSE said its contribution to the exchequer, including collections and payments, stood at Rs 20,579 crore in Q1FY27. This included securities transaction tax and commodities transaction tax of Rs 18,313 crore, stamp duty of Rs 980 crore, GST of Rs 657 crore, income tax of Rs 373 crore and SEBI fees of Rs 256 crore.
Within the STT and CTT contribution, equity derivatives accounted for 57%. Delivery-based cash market trades accounted for 37%, while intraday cash market trades accounted for 6%.
NSE reported profit before contribution to Core Settlement Guarantee Fund, exceptional items and tax of Rs 4,098 crore, compared with Rs 3,877 crore a year earlier. Contribution to the Core SGF stood at Rs 50 crore during the quarter. Profit before exceptional items and tax stood at Rs 4,048 crore.
Exceptional items were at Rs 20 crore, taking profit before tax to Rs 4,069 crore. Total tax expense stood at Rs 949 crore. The company reported total comprehensive income of Rs 3,118 crore for the quarter.
NSE started operations in 1994 and was the first still-operational exchange in India to implement electronic or screen-based trading. Its business includes listings, trading services, clearing and settlement, indices and market data feeds.
The exchange was the world’s largest derivatives exchange by trading volume in 2025, based on Futures Industry Association data. It also ranked third globally in the equity segment by number of trades in 2025, based on World Federation of Exchanges data.
