Demo over price rise, UDF leaders court arrest

Protesting the LDF Government's "failure" to tackle price rise, senior leaders of the Congress-led UDF in Kerala courted arrest after holding a demonstration before the government secretariat.

Thiruvananthapuram: Protesting the LDF Government's "failure" to tackle price rise, senior leaders of the Congress-led UDF in Kerala courted arrest after holding a demonstration before the government secretariat here today.

Hundreds of UDF workers joined in the protest with leaders charging the V S Achuthanandan Government with having failed totally in arresting prices of essential commodities including rice.

The leaders, who courted arrest, included former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, Muslim League leader P K Kunhalikutty and Kerala Congress (M) leader K M Mani.

Addressing the demonstration, Chandy accused the government of deceiving the people by claiming that effective steps had been taken to bring down the prices of essential commodities.
