What makes a man look attractive to Jennifer Lopez? Her answer goes far beyond fancy cars or a private jets

Jennifer Lopez may be one of the world's biggest stars, but when it comes to relationships, she says the things that matter most cannot be bought. During her performance at Dolce & Gabbana's closing Alta Moda concert in Taormina, Sicily, the singer and actor surprised the audience by saying that expensive watches, luxury cars and private jets are not what make a man attractive. Instead, she pointed to simple, thoughtful gestures at home as the real sign of a good partner.

The comments came as Lopez performed some of her biggest hits and interacted with the audience between songs. According to People, her remarks were met with laughter and applause.

Lopez began by joking about the long-standing perception that she is "expensive" before making it clear that she does not need anyone to provide for her.


"You know people look at me and they think I’m expensive…and I am. But I have my own money. We don’t need anybody to buy us anything," she told the crowd.

She went on to explain that material wealth has little to do with what she finds attractive in a partner.

"But you know what really makes a man attractive? It’s not the watch. It’s not the car. It’s not the private jet. It really isn’t, although that’s nice," Lopez said.

What truly stands out to her, she explained, is a partner who is willing to help without being asked.

"It’s seeing them make the bed in the morning or wash the dishes for you when you’re tired at night. That’s what’s sexy. Now that’s what I call sexy," she said, before adding, "Cause ladies, you know, we do all the things. We do all the things."

Her message echoed the idea that thoughtfulness and sharing everyday responsibilities matter more than grand displays of wealth.

A playful exchange

Before speaking about relationships, Lopez shared a light-hearted moment with her backup dancers on stage.

"Fix my hair OK. Fix my hair," she told one dancer before jokingly dismissing the others. "But the rest of you, get out of here. You’re broke. I don’t need you. I don’t need your money. I don’t need your gifts. That’s right."

Continuing the joke, she laughed about the image people have of her.

"You know, people look at me, they look at me for years, and they think I’m expensive. You see my sparkly cup. And I am, I am expensive," she said with a laugh.

Lopez quickly added that financial independence has never been an issue for her.

"I am, but I have my own money. Ladies, am I right? We don’t need anybody to buy us anything. We don’t. We want them to; sometimes that’s nice," she said.

The performance featured several of her best-known songs, including Love Don't Cost a Thing, Waiting for Tonight, Let's Get Loud, Ain't Your Mama and Save Me Tonight.

Looking ahead after heartbreak

Lopez's comments come months after she spoke openly about life following her divorce from Ben Affleck. In an appearance on the Subway Takes YouTube show, she reflected on how heartbreak had shaped her.

"I just feel like the biggest growth spurts I've had emotionally, mentally, psychologically have always come from a heartbreak," she said.

"And that's not just in romantic relationships, that's in work heartbreaks, all of it. It's the only time you dig. You’re like, 'What happened? How do I do this? Why do I keep doing this? Or why didn't that happen? What could I have done better?' You change yourself."

She shared a similar perspective during an interview on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show, calling the end of her marriage a turning point.

"When I got divorced this last time, it was the best thing that ever happened to me," Lopez said, explaining that she worked with therapists and coaches to better understand herself and eventually became "much more self-assured" and comfortable with who she is.

More recently, Lopez also suggested she is in no rush to begin another relationship. When Kelly Clarkson asked what this stage of her life looked like, the singer replied with a smile, "What is my life going to be? Free!"

She has since shared glimpses of that chapter on social media, posting photos from her trip to Sicily with her sister Lynne and writing, "A double birthday sister trip is always a good idea! I love you Lynnie!"
