Toxic OTT release date new update: When and where will the Yash starrer psychological thriller stream online

Yash’s Toxic is now expected to move towards its digital release after a much-discussed theatrical run. The Geetu Mohandas-directed psychological gangster thriller had arrived in cinemas amid huge expectations, especially because it marked Yash’s return to the big screen after KGF Chapter 2.

The film had remained in the news even before its release because of its scale, cast and long wait for Yash’s next film. Along with Yash, Toxic features Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi. The film was produced by KVN Productions, while Ravi Basrur composed its music.

The OTT arrival is also significant because Toxic had a very different journey in theatres from what its initial hype suggested. The film opened strongly but soon faced criticism and a drop in collections as reviews and word of mouth became mixed.

Toxic OTT release date and platform

According to a Times Now report, Toxic is expected to premiere on Zee5 on September 25, 2026. This means that the digital release comes almost a month after the film reached theatres on August 26.

Reports about the OTT premiere had been circulating for some time, with September 25 being mentioned as the likely date. The film is now set to become available for viewers who missed it in cinemas or those who want to revisit the Yash starrer from home.

The OTT release is expected to give the film another opportunity to reach viewers after its theatrical run. With the film no longer dependent on cinema schedules, audiences will be able to watch it at their own convenience and decide for themselves how they view the much-discussed movie.

Toxic released on August 26 with considerable expectations. Yash's popularity, particularly after the success of the KGF franchise, had made the film one of the major releases of the year.

According to figures cited in reports, the movie opened with more than Rs 100 crore worldwide on its first day, while the Hindi market alone contributed more than Rs 50 crore. However, the strong opening did not translate into the same momentum over the following days.

The film received criticism for its screenplay, violence and adult content. Collections reportedly dropped sharply from the second day as negative reviews and mixed word of mouth started affecting its theatrical performance.

What is Toxic about?

Set in Goa across a period stretching from the 1940s to the 1970s, Toxic follows Raya, a powerful gangster who builds his criminal empire through smuggling, violence and betrayal.

Yash plays Raya as well as his son Ticket. Nayanthara plays his sister Ganga. The story also looks at the complicated relationships within Raya's family as his power and influence continue to grow.

As rivalries develop and loyalties begin to change, Raya has to deal with the consequences of the choices that helped him build his position in the criminal world.

The film's release journey itself became a talking point. Toxic was initially expected to arrive earlier and was linked to a potential clash with Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Its release was later pushed from March to June and eventually to August.

The film was also promoted as a major pan-India project and was released in multiple languages, including English. Its large cast and Yash's return after KGF Chapter 2 added further interest around the movie.
