Taapsee Pannu reveals shocking reason why she was dropped from a film: ‘The hero’s wife…'

Taapsee Pannu recently opened up about some awkward experiences she faced in her struggling phase in Bollywood. The Haseen Dilruba star revealed she was dropped unceremoniously from projects even after she had signed the dotted line. In a chat with Nayandeep Rakshit, the actress said once she was replaced by the leading man of a film, she was not notified why she was removed. “I have been told that I was replaced by the hero of the film. God knows the reason. I keep imagining the reasons. I can imagine the insecurity; I can imagine that he wanted someone else whom he was closer to. I can imagine various reasons, but I wasn’t given any solid reason. I was just told that he didn’t want me in the film because I kept asking the reason for my removal,” she said.

The actress also opened up on another occasion when she was removed by the film’s producer, as the hero’s wife apparently didn’t like her. ““The worst reason given to me when I was replaced was, ‘The hero’s wife doesn’t like you.’ I don’t know why she didn’t like me.” Taapsee didn’t name the actor or his wife.

Whether in Haseen Dilruba, Thappad or Dhunki, Taapsee Pannu has established a distinct identity in the film industry through her performances. However, the actress has also deliberately turned down projects to prevent herself from being confined to a particular image. Speaking to PTI, she explained that the industry often relies on familiar casting formulas, with a limited group of actresses repeatedly chosen for glamorous characters and another set regularly considered for socially relevant, hard-hitting stories. Taapsee said she has started refusing such offers when she feels her casting could make a film too predictable for viewers. She has even discouraged filmmakers from choosing her for certain projects when she believed her presence might reveal the direction of the story and ultimately work against the film.


Taapsee was recently seen in two movies – Assi and Gandhari. In Assi, which was helmed by Anubhav Sinha, Taapsee essays the role of a lawyer, Raavi Bhatkal. In her second film, Gandhari, she plays the role of a mother whose daughter is kidnapped and whom she must find.
