This proved that Andromeda was not a nearby nebula but an independent galaxy containing billions of stars, fundamentally changing humanity's understanding of the universe.
Hubble continued examining and classifying galaxies, leading to another revolutionary discovery in 1929. He found that most galaxies were moving away from Earth, and the farther a galaxy was, the faster it appeared to recede. This groundbreaking relationship became known as Hubble's Law and provided the first strong evidence that the universe is expanding.
In the final phase of his career, Hubble played a leading role in designing and developing the 200-inch Hale Telescope on Palomar Mountain.
