One actor from Rs 4,000 crore Ramayana film did not charge a single rupee: ‘I don’t want….’

Anticipation surrounding the mythological epic has continued to soar, with discussions and online buzz reaching new heights as the film prepares for its grand theatrical release in November. While the curiosity is at its peak for the main leads, did you know that there is an actor who did not charge a single paisa for acting in the film? It’s none other than Vivek Oberoi!

Oberoi, who portrays Vibhishan, the righteous younger brother of Ravana, in the upcoming epic Ramayana, has chosen to dedicate his entire remuneration from the film to charity instead of keeping it for himself according to a Hindustan Times report.

The ambitious mythological project, reportedly being produced on a staggering budget of around ₹4,000 crore, is expected to become the costliest Indian film ever created. A significant portion of this massive investment has been allocated to large-scale production, cutting-edge visual effects, and world-class filmmaking standards. Despite being part of such a landmark production, Oberoi decided not to accept any personal financial benefit from his role.


Speaking to Hindustan Times, the actor disclosed that he informed producer Namit Malhotra that he did not wish to receive any payment for appearing in the film. Instead, he requested that his compensation be directed toward supporting children undergoing treatment for cancer, a cause he deeply cares about. Oberoi explained that he wanted his association with the project to contribute to something meaningful while also expressing his admiration for Malhotra's vision.

According to the actor, he believes the film has the potential to elevate Indian cinema to an unprecedented international level and was eager to back that dream through his contribution.

The makers unveiled the film's much-awaited trailer on July 30, offering audiences an impressive first look at the grand retelling of the ancient epic. The preview introduces Yash as the formidable Ravana, the powerful and seemingly invincible ruler whose ambition, arrogance, and desire for revenge drive his conquest of the world. In contrast, the narrative highlights Lord Ram, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, celebrated as the embodiment of virtue, righteousness, and ideal conduct in every role of life. The trailer also showcases key moments from the story, including Ravana's ascent to power, Ram's birth, childhood education, marriage to Sita, and the beginning of his fourteen-year exile, setting the stage for the monumental conflict that follows.
