'Not just dating': Mother Twinkle Khanna’s advice to son Aarav is about setting boundaries because of his 'generous' nature

Akshay Kumar’s son Aarav recently hit headlines for his admittedly non-glamorous life. The superstar revealed in many interviews that his son, despite being the child of two actors, is not interested in becoming a Bollywood star and is determined to make it in the fashion industry. He also stated that Aarav prefers a low-key life and believes in sustainability and often buys from thrift shops. In an interview with The Print, his mother, actress-turned-writer Twinkle Khanna, opened up about her son and whether she shares dating advice with him. The ‘Badsaah’ star said that while she does share relationship advice with him, she gives advice to people based on their personalities. “You can’t give someone generic advice,” she said.

The former actress then explained her son is someone who is very soft-hearted and kind. That kind of person can often become prey to unscrupulous people. So she always taught him to have boundaries. “He is very generous; that can lead to other people to take advantage..." she explained. With her daughter Nitara, her advice is the polar opposite – she tells her to lower her boundaries and be less aggressive. This is her advice not just for romantic relationships but for how to function in the world.

A Self-Sufficient Life

In a chat with cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, Akshay Kumar said that his son led a very responsible life and he avoided extravagance and did all of his chores by himself. He also steered clear of luxuries and chose to purchase clothing from thrift stores.


“He does his own laundry, he is a good cook, he does the utensils and doesn’t even want to buy expensive clothes. In fact, he goes to a second-hand store, Thrifty, to buy clothes because he doesn’t believe in wastage," he said.

In a recent interview on the podcast Unplugged, Shubahankar, who is known for his role in Welcome, said that his son isn't into Bollywood and currently works a job that gives him only Rs 4,500 each month. He said his son wanted to work in the fashion industry. He goes to different villages to understand fashion, fabrics, and designs.Akshay recalled how Aarav decided to leave home at the age of fifteen to study abroad.

The actor admitted that he was initially not happy with his son leaving so young, but he started to respect that choice.He himself had left home at fourteen to chase his dreams. Aarav is currently attending a university in London, a decision he made on his own, purely because he wants to live life according to his own choices. Akshay talked proudly about Aarav, saying he is a genuine and trustworthy young man who values practical things more than expensive or fancy ones.
