Nani’s inspiring journey in photos: Son of pharmacist, worked as RJ, clap assistant, married to a techie and Telegu's megastar

The actor was born into a non-film family. He completed his schooling at St Alphonsa’s High School and later graduated from Wesley Degree College in Secunderabad. From a humble start, he went on to become one of the most-loved stars in Telugu cinema.

Nani's much-awaited movie The Paradise finally hit the theatres today (September 24), and it took over the box office.

Nani’s mother, Vijayalakshmi, worked as a pharmacist and served for about 30 years before retiring in 2018. Sharing the picture with her, he wrote, "30 years in the industry as a Pharmacist. Always smiling and ready to help. Doctors love her, patients love her more, and we love her the most! Today is her last day at work. Proud of u Amma. You are the most beautiful person ever."

Nani also worked as a radio jockey at World Space Satellite Radio in Hyderabad. He hosted a programme called Non-Stop Nani for about a year. His work as an RJ eventually played an unexpected role in his journey towards acting.

Before becoming an actor, Nani started his journey behind the camera. He worked as a clap assistant to the legendary director late Bapu for Radha Gopalam (2005) and worked as an assistant director for films like Allari Pidugu, Dhee, and Asthram.

Ashta Chamma (2008) is the debut film of actor Nani as a lead actor.

Telugu actor Nani rose to fame and attained his career breakthrough with the romantic comedy Ala Modalaindi (2011). While he made a successful acting debut in the hit comedy Ashta Chamma (2008), it was Ala Modalaindi that turned him into a household name, established his popular "boy-next-door" image.

Nani met Anjana Yelavarthi while he was working as an RJ. The two dated for nearly five years before getting married in a private ceremony in 2012. Anjana is a software professional. The couple welcomed their son, Arjun, in 2017

Over the years, He went on to make a mark in Telugu cinema with successful films such as Pilla Zamindar (2011), Yevade Subramanyam and Bhale Bhale Magadivoy (2015). Nani later showed his versatility with films including Nenu Local (2017), Ninnu Kori (2017), Middle Class Abbayi (2017) and Jersey (2019).

Nearly two decades after entering the industry, Nani has established himself as an actor and producer. His journey from assistant director and RJ to leading actor has been gradual rather than overnight.
