Man with a bleeding forehead gets rushed to the hospital. He has no cuts or scratches. Doctor explains what made him bleed: ‘An adrenaline spike can cause…'
An internal medicine expert recently shared an anecdote about a patient who started bleeding from the forehead without any wounds or scratches. He explained how, in some cases, people bleed without any injuries, just from a panic attack.

He explained that the patient came to the hospital in a terrible condition and told the doctors that he was sweating blood. Upon examination, the medical staff could see blood drops coming out of the patient’s forehead.
The patient had an intense panic attack, and, for unknown reasons, he began bleeding profusely. Surprisingly, the man did not have any wounds on his skin, which could be the reason for the hemorrhage. Several tests were done, and all laboratory results were found to be normal.
In another tweet, Dr Bordoloishe said that the patient actually had a rare condition known as hematidrosis.
Hematidrosis is a rare and terrifying phenomenon that can happen when a person sweats blood. It is usually triggered by episodes of extreme terror or severe anxiety and is associated with a sudden release of adrenaline in the bloodstream. The doctor explained that a sudden increase in adrenaline levels can cause blood vessels around sweat glands to dilate and bleed.
So, when a person has a fright and starts sweating, the liquid that comes out of their sweat glands can actually be blood. According to the doctor, this is a scary situation, as it may appear that your skin is bleeding. However, in most cases, hematidrosis stops on its own when the attack of anxiety or fear stops.
The doctor noted that the best way to treat this condition is to control the symptoms, not trying to stop the bleeding as if the patient had suffered an injury. To minimize the amount of adrenaline in the blood, the doctor may prescribe beta-blockers or other anxiety medications.
Hematidrosis is a rare condition, but the doctor said that bloody sweating should always be taken seriously, as there may be many other reasons for it.
