Man skips his usual Rs 250 haircut. A free haircut and Rs 99 membership later, he realises the real strategy
A man’s post about a salon’s free haircut offer has gone viral after revealing the clever business strategy behind it. Pratham shared how a salon attracted customers with free haircuts but converted them into loyal members through a Rs 99 VIP Club...

Curious about the offer, Pratham decided to walk in. To his surprise, around 25 to 30 people were already waiting for their turn. When he asked about the waiting time, the manager informed him that customers would have to wait two to three hours. However, there was another option. By joining the salon’s Rs 99 VIP Club, customers could get a priority slot along with a guaranteed free haircut.
Pratham signed up for the membership and got his haircut. Later, he asked the manager how the salon could afford to offer free haircuts to so many customers. The manager revealed that in the last 28 days, more than 1,100 people had joined the VIP Club. He explained that while a haircut cost the salon around Rs 90 to Rs 110, the strategy was not just about giving away free services.
According to him, more than 65% of members returned for additional services such as beard trims, hair spas, massages and styling because they wanted to unlock the next rewards. The manager also showed Pratham the reward system printed on the back of the membership card. The journey included benefits such as 10% off, free coffee, hair massage, 15% off, beard trim, free haircut, priority slot, free styling, 20% off and a hair spa.
Sharing his takeaway, Pratham said he finally understood the idea behind the offer. The salon was not just selling haircuts; it was building a habit among customers and encouraging repeat visits.
