Main Vaapas Aaunga OTT release date update: When and where to watch the Diljit Dosanjh starrer emotional period drama

After performing well in theatres, Main Vaapas Aaunga is now getting ready for its digital release. The period drama, directed by Imtiaz Ali and led by Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, Sharvari and Naseeruddin Shah, was released in cinemas on June 12, 2026. The film received positive reviews and gradually turned into one of the sleeper hits of the year.

Now, those who missed watching it on the big screen or want to revisit the emotional story will soon be able to stream it at home. According to a report by Free Press Journal, Main Vaapas Aaunga is set to make its OTT debut on Netflix in the first week of August.

As per Free Press Journal, Main Vaapas Aaunga will begin streaming on Netflix from August 7, 2026.


The film completed nearly two months in theatres before locking its digital release. Its OTT arrival has been awaited by many viewers, especially after the film continued to gain attention through positive word of mouth during its theatrical run. It also went on to become one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2026.

What is Main Vaapas Aaunga about?

Set across two different timelines, Main Vaapas Aaunga tells a story shaped by love, memory and the lasting impact of the 1947 Partition.

The story begins with an elderly man battling dementia and longing to return to his childhood home in present-day Pakistan. As fragments of his memories slowly come back, his grandson Nirvair Grewal, played by Diljit Dosanjh, starts piecing together the past to understand what his grandfather has been carrying for decades.

The journey eventually uncovers a deeply emotional romance from 1947 between young lovers Keenu, played by Vedang Raina, and Jiya, played by Sharvari. Their lives are torn apart by Partition, leaving behind a story of separation that continues to affect generations.

Instead of building towards a conventional reunion, the film focuses on acceptance and emotional closure. As the truth about Jiya's life finally comes to light, Keenu is able to find peace in his final moments, giving the story an emotional ending.

The ensemble cast includes Diljit Dosanjh as Nirvair Grewal, Naseeruddin Shah as Ishar Singh Grewal, Vedang Raina as young Keenu, Sharvari as Jiya/Afsana, Banita Sandhu as Kaveri, Kumud Mishra as the BSF Chief, Rajat Kapoor as Iqbal Grewal, Danish Pandor as Afzal, Dolly Ahluwalia, Manish Chaudhary, Anjana Sukhani and Mashhoor Amrohi in supporting roles.

The film also delivered a solid performance at the ticket window. According to trade website Sacnilk, Main Vaapas Aaunga has earned Rs 64.83 crore net and Rs 77.03 crore gross in India. Overseas, it collected around Rs 21.83 crore, taking its worldwide gross collection to Rs 98.86 crore.
