New South OTT releases of the week
If the rain has cancelled your weekend plans, South cinema has plenty to keep you entertained from the comfort of your couch. This week's OTT slate brings together gripping thrillers, emotional family dramas, romance, mystery and action across Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu cinema. Whether you're in the mood for a suspense-filled investigation, a nostalgic love story or an intense village drama, streaming platforms have something lined up. Here's a look at the latest South Indian movies and series releasing this week.

Uyir – JioHotstar
Malayalam thriller Uyir started streaming on JioHotstar on August 4. Starring Roshan Mathew as police officer Ajeeb Rahman, the film follows his investigation after an unidentified woman is found inside an abandoned well. As he digs deeper into the mystery, the case begins to mirror the painful disappearance of his younger sister years ago, turning the investigation into a deeply personal journey. Directed by M. Padmakumar, the film also features Baiju Santhosh, Saiyami Kher, Shruthy Menon and Athulya Chandra, and is available in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.


Lenin – ZEE5
After a successful theatrical run, Lenin arrives on ZEE5 on August 7. The Telugu rural action drama stars Akhil Akkineni as an orphan who returns to his village after serving a prison sentence, only to find himself caught in old rivalries, political manipulation and long-buried family secrets. The story unfolds during an eighteen-day village festival where violence is forbidden, raising the stakes with every passing day. The film grossed over Rs 67 crore worldwide, making it Akhil Akkineni's biggest box office success so far and an important comeback in his career.

Idhayam Murali – Netflix
Tamil romantic drama Idhayam Murali begins streaming on Netflix on August 7. Led by Atharvaa, alongside Preity Mukhundhan in dual roles and Kayadu Lohar, the coming-of-age story follows a young man's journey through childhood crushes, first love and missed opportunities that shape his life. Fahadh Faasil also appears in an extended cameo. Written, directed and produced by debutant Aakash Baskaran, the film's title is a tribute to Atharvaa's late father, actor Murali, who starred in the 1991 classic Idhayam.

Nooru Saami – ZEE5
Family social drama Nooru Saami premieres on ZEE5 on August 7. Directed by Sasi, the film stars Vijay Antony, Swasika Vijay, Ajay Dhishan, Lijomol Jose and Karunaas. Inspired by real-life events, the story centres on a widowed mother whose decision to seek companionship later in life challenges societal expectations as well as her family's beliefs, making for an emotional and thought-provoking watch.

Vadhandhi: Season 2 – The Mystery of Mani – Prime Video
The mystery continues with Vadhandhi: Season 2 – The Mystery of Mani, which starts streaming on Prime Video on August 7. M. Sasikumar returns as SI Moosa Raza, who investigates skeletal remains uncovered during a highway construction project in Madurai. Set against the backdrop of the Jallikattu festival, the eight-episode series mixes crime, suspense and local folklore while exploring the thin line between rumours and reality. The new season also stars Yashwanth, Aparna Das, Vivek Prasanna, Revathy Sharma and Arjun Nandhakumar.

Kattalan – Manorama Max
Action thriller Kattalan makes its OTT debut on Manorama Max on August 7. Featuring Antony Varghese, Rajisha Vijayan and Kabir Duhan Singh, the film revolves around an ivory smuggling network where loyalty, survival and power collide. Packed with action sequences while balancing emotional drama, Kattalan promises an intense watch for fans of commercial thrillers.

Sathyathil Sambhavichathu – Sun NXT
Malayalam comedy mystery Sathyathil Sambhavichathu arrives on Sun NXT on August 7. Written and directed by Prasanth Mohan, the story revolves around an old village legend about hidden treasure buried beneath ponds and wells. When fresh clues emerge, they spark confusion, greed and plenty of comic situations among the villagers. Starring Akash Menon, Dilshana, Dileesh Pothan and Johny Antony, the film brings humour with mystery.
