Jumanji Open World trailer out: Dwayne Johnson reunites with Jack Black and Kevin Hart for one final adventure

The wait is finally over. The trailer for the much-awaited Jumanji Open World, the third movie of the acclaimed film franchise, has been unveiled by Sony. The action-adventure serves as a direct sequel to 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, which rebooted the franchise after legendary late actor Robin Williams starred in a 1995 feature version adapting Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 children’s book. Jumanji Open World marks the return of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan.

In Jumanji: Open World’s trailer, the boundaries blur as the video game's heroic avatars escape the console and cause mayhem in the human world. The trailer highlights Johnson, Black, Hart, and Gillan navigating reality while functioning as glitchy, robotic versions of their game characters. Director Jake Kasdan, who spearheaded the previous two hits, returns to direct from a screenplay he co-authored with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.


Alongside the primary quartet delivering their signature blend of action, humor, and identity-swapping antics, several supporting actors make their return, including Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Marin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, and Rhys Darby. Expanding the ensemble, Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes join the cast as fresh additions.

The Jumanji Open World trailer opens to with Spencer, played by Alex Wolff and his crew gathering at Nora’s diner, where his grandfather, essayed by Danny DeVito, motions toward a strikingly familiar glinting bald head—marking the sudden real-world appearance of Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson).

As Professor Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon (Jack Black), Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), and Franklin "Mouse" Finbar (Kevin Hart) materialize alongside him, it becomes evident that the Jumanji universe has spilled over into real life, locking the four main avatars into a malfunctioning "demo mode." This glitch leads to hilarious quirks, such as Bravestone speaking unexpectedly fluent Spanish. Powered by Europe’s classic anthem "The Final Countdown," the trailer showcases total pandemonium as stampedes of ostriches, rhinos, oxen, and oversized reptiles run amok through town.

Jumanji Open World release date

Jumanji Open World, produced by Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Kasdan, was originally scheduled to hit the big screens on December 11. But now, the film has been pushed back to Christmas, releasing on December 25, just after the December 18 debuts of Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday.
