Back in 2020, during an appearance The Tonight Show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Margot Robbie opened up about her interesting although short-lived tattoo career. ‘I have done almost 50 tattoos now. On my birthday, my friends were like, 'What do you want for your birthday?' I was like, 'I just want to do more tattoos!'’, was her candid confession, reported ENewss.


Margot Robbie told Jimmy Fallon that although she was not trained in tattooing, she bought a tattoo gun on a whom on eBay. During breaks on the sets of her 2016 film Suicide Squad, Robbie even inked some of her co-stars as well as the movie’s director David Ayer under the playful label of ‘Harley's Tattoo Parlour’, referencing to her character in the film. Cara Delevingne was also treated to several tattooed treats by Margot Robbie, including a smiley face on her big toe. Robbie and Delevingne gave each other non-permanent matching tattoos. "We'd tattoo the bottom of our toes with little faces. But the thing about tattooing the bottom of your toes is that it rubs off after a while, so we have to keep redoing them,’ shared Robbie, as quoted by ENews.

Why Margot Robbie ended her tattooing journey

Margot Robbie's unexpected tattooing journey, however, came to an abrupt end after one uncanny incident at a friend's bachelorette party in Australia. According to the actress, what began as a fun celebration soon turned into an impromptu tattoo session after a few drinks, with the group deciding to get matching designs as a keepsake.

Using a sketch drawn by another friend as a guide, Margot Robbie tattooed one of her friends on the back. It was only after the tattoo was finished that the bride-to-be admitted she hadn't realised that was the design she was getting. Fortunately, the friend was happy with the outcome, much to Robbie's relief. The real trouble surfaced the following day at the wedding.

The bridesmaid wore a backless dress, leaving the freshly inked tattoo—still red and healing—clearly visible. While the bride took it in good spirits, her mother was far from pleased. Margot Robbie recalled that she was confronted over the tattoo during the celebrations, an experience that made her rethink her hobby.

The awkward encounter proved to be a turning point. Realising the responsibility that comes with permanently tattooing someone, especially without professional training, Margot Robbie decided it was time to put away the tattoo gun for good. Although her brief stint as an amateur, it remains one of the actress's most surprising hidden talents and an amusing chapter in her life.
