Google Pixel 11 launches on August 12. Will India finally get more storage options?

Google has officially confirmed its next Made by Google event for August 12, where it is expected to unveil the Pixel 11 series alongside new Gemini AI features. The keynote begins at 6 PM ET, which translates to 3:30 AM IST on August 13, meaning most Indian buyers will wake up to the announcements rather than watch them live. Four smartphones are expected: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Thanks to a steady stream of leaks over the past few weeks, there may not be many surprises left.

What’s expected

The Pixel 11 lineup is expected to be powered by Google’s Tensor G6 processor paired with the Titan M3 security chip, with 12GB or 16GB of RAM depending on the model. Storage could see a notable upgrade. Leaks suggest the Pixel 11 may start at 256GB, with 512GB available as an option, while the Pro XL and Pro Fold could go up to 1TB. If accurate, it would mark the end of the 128GB base variant, a welcome move for devices Google promises to support for seven years.

Another expected addition is a new notification system. Previously spotted in Android 17 Beta 4 under the codename Pixel Glow, recent leaks suggest it will launch as HiLight. The feature uses an LED integrated into the camera bar to display different colours for notifications, favourite contacts and Gemini interactions while the phone is placed face down. In practical terms, it revives the notification LED with tighter AI integration.


Camera upgrades, however, appear uneven. The standard Pixel 11 is rumoured to feature a 48MP primary and 13MP ultrawide camera, dropping the dedicated 5x telephoto lens available on the Pixel 10. The Pro models are expected to retain a triple-camera setup with a 48MP periscope telephoto sensor. If these leaks prove accurate, the base model may lose one of its biggest differentiators, particularly in markets where camera hardware remains a key purchase consideration.

Pricing could move higher

The Pixel 11 is expected to start at $899 in the US, followed by $1,099 for the Pro, $1,299 for the Pro XL and $1,899 for the Pro Fold. The increase is believed to be driven largely by higher memory costs.


In India, current estimates place the Pixel 11 between Rs 85,000 and Rs 86,500, while the Pixel 11 Pro could be priced between Rs 1,11,999 and Rs 1,19,999.

For comparison, the Pixel 10 launched at Rs 79,999, the Pixel 10 Pro at Rs 1,09,999, the Pro XL at Rs 1,24,999, and the Pro Fold at Rs 1,72,999. That suggests a price increase of roughly Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 for the base model.

The question for India

While pricing will be closely watched, another detail could matter just as much: which storage variants Google actually brings to India In recent years, Google’s India strategy has differed from markets such as the US. Both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro were sold here only in 256GB configurations, while higher-capacity variants remained unavailable despite being offered internationally.

If the Pixel 11 series indeed starts at 256GB globally, and India again receives only that configuration, Indian buyers would effectively have access only to the entry-level storage option despite paying flagship prices. That becomes more relevant on devices designed for seven years of software updates and increasingly dependent on on-device AI features, which continue to consume more storage over time.

Google has invested significantly in India over the past two years through local manufacturing partnerships, expanded retail availability and a broader Pixel push. The upcoming launch will therefore be watched not just for new hardware, but also for whether the company offers Indian buyers the same configuration choices available in other markets.
On August 13, the Tensor G6, Gemini features and the new HiLight notification system will attract most of the attention. But for many buyers in India, one of the most important details may simply be the storage options listed on the product page.
