Six years after Chadwick Boseman’s death, a dispute over the late Black Panther star’s estate has now reached another sensitive area — a documentary being developed to celebrate his life. Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, says she is working with production company Words + Pictures on the project and is trying to secure a deal with Searchlight Pictures. Boseman’s brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, filed a petition earlier this year seeking to remove Ledward Boseman as administrator of the actor’s estate. The brothers have alleged that the estate has not been fully distributed and have questioned how certain assets and rights connected to Boseman’s work have been handled. The Los Angeles Times reported that they asked the court to remove Ledward Boseman, alleging that she had failed to properly distribute assets owed to members of the family.


The estate dispute centres on Boseman having died without a will. A 2022 court order divided the estate, with Ledward Boseman receiving half and Boseman’s parents, Leroy and Carolyn, receiving the other half.

Ledward Boseman has strongly disputed the allegations.

In recent court filings, she said she had paid more than $1.7 million to Boseman’s parents since 2022, according to TMZ. She also said she voluntarily provided $300,000 to the children of Derrick Boseman from her own money.

The disagreement is particularly notable because Ledward Boseman has previously spoken about the importance of protecting her husband's legacy while respecting the privacy he valued. Boseman died in August 2020 at the age of 43 following a private battle with colon cancer. His illness had not been publicly disclosed during much of his career, even as he continued working on major films including Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
