Career lesson from Amitabh Bachchan: At 83, his ‘commitments are commitments’ ideology separates successful people from the rest

At 83, Amitabh Bachchan continues to maintain a demanding work routine, recently revealing that his schedule stretched from 7 am to 7 am during the work on Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18. His words, ‘commitments are commitments’, highlight his lo...

Amitabh Bachchan is 83 but still works 24-hour shifts

For most people, the idea of working through an entire day without proper sleep, food or rest would be difficult to imagine. For Amitabh Bachchan, however, work continues to remain a major part of his routine even at 83. The veteran actor recently revealed that demanding schedules had kept him working for almost 24 hours at a stretch, leaving him with little time even for his regular blog posts.

Bachchan, who has maintained a close connection with his fans through his Tumblr blog for years, apologised for missing some of his usual updates. He explained that the intensity of his recent work had simply taken over his schedule.

Amitabh Bachchan explains his 24-hour work schedule

The actor said his workdays had stretched from one morning to the next, with commitments taking priority over several basic parts of his daily routine.

“Apologies for this weird numbering and the missed Blogs .. The work hours and the intensity of work just did not give me time to get to connect .. so am extremely sorry !!! Work hours were stretching from 7am in the morning to almost 7 am the next day .. days of 24 hrs work .. commitments are commitments and must have preference over any other .. time sleep food et al ..”

The remarks offer a simple career lesson from someone who has spent more than five decades in the entertainment industry. For Bachchan, a professional commitment does not appear to become less important simply because he has reached an age when many would expect him to slow down.

In another blog entry, the actor had also spoken about how strongly he depends on having a fixed work routine. He said that even a day without work can leave him unsettled because the schedule he has followed for years is deeply ingrained in his daily life.

“A day that spelt ‘lazy’ … no reason whatsoever ... just it seems disturbing to not be working each day ... and when you do not work each day according to a schedule … the entire process of habit forming that pre seeded ... the day suddenly becomes a mystery of deeds, which normally would have worked in perfect unison.”

KBC Season 18 brings another busy schedule

The hectic period came around the start of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18. Bachchan is returning as the host of the quiz show, which premiered on Sony Entertainment Television on August 10 at 9 pm. The new season is being aired from Monday to Friday and carries the theme ‘Sochna Padega’.

Bachchan has been associated with KBC since its first season in 2000, except for Season 3, when Shah Rukh Khan hosted the show. His long association with the programme has made him one of its most recognisable faces.

Speaking about getting some breathing space, Bachchan said he would now try to restore his regular interaction with fans after reorganising his routine.

“But a break today as KBC 18th season with Sony does a start .. and on can only pray .. and pray .. I shall be with you in the regularity as before .. but let me organise , or rather let me re organise my system and we shall be in correct connect ..my love and my admiration.”

Amitabh Bachchan continues to work at 83

The veteran actor's workload is not limited to television. He was last seen as Ashwatthama in Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD, alongside Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan. The film crossed the ₹1,000-crore mark globally, while Bachchan's performance received considerable attention.

He is also working on the sequel.

At an age when many people have already stepped away from demanding professional schedules, Bachchan continues to show up for film and television projects.
