After The Revolutionaries, Pratibha Ranta to star opposite Rajkummar Rao in Karan Johar’s fantasy horror film Vishkanya: Report

Pratibha Ranta is on a roll. The Laapataa Ladies actress has impressed audiences with her versatility. Be it playing the role of the sweet and caring Dr Meera in Netflix’s Accused, also starring Konkona Sen Sharma, or slipping into the shoes of a valiant freedom fighter, Pratibha Lahiri, in Prime Video’s historical drama series The Revolutionaries, Pratibha has been winning hearts and how. Now, if reports are to be believed, the 25-year-old has been roped in for a fantasy horror film, Vishkanya. Pratibha will be sharing screen space with Rajkummar Rao in the Karan Johar-backed movie.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the plot details of Vishkanya are currently kept under tight wraps. Sources, however, reveal that the movie aims to create a mythical universe, blending magic and elements of existential terror, including supernatural elements. Vishkanya’s shooting is likely to kick off by the end of this year.

Vishkanya is helmed by Sonal Joshi. The director, who marked her Bollywood debut with Shilpa Shetty’s 2023 film Sukhee, previously assisted Vijay Krishna Acharya on Dhoom 3, and Imtiaz Ali on Tamasha and Jab Harry Met Sejal. She has also worked on Emraan Hashmi’s Netflix series Bard of Blood.

Vishkanya marks Pratibha Ranta’s second film with Dharma Productions, following Accused which released this year in Februray. The film is also the second Dharma project for Rajkummar Rao who previously headlined Sharan Sharma’s Mr. & Mrs. Mahi (2024) alongside Janhvi Kapoor.

Coming to Pratibha Ranta, she made her Bollywood debut with Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies. The comedy-drama, also starring Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Rabi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Panchayat fame Durgesh Kumar was selected as India's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards, but it was ultimately not nominated after missing the December 2024 shortlist.
