Aditya Chopra is the 'best brother-in-law', says Jyoti Mukerji. Ikka actress reveals why she never worked with his banner despite being Rani Mukerji's sister-in-law

Actress Jyoti Mukerji, who was recently seen in Ikka alongside Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, says working with the two stars has been a valuable learning experience. She is currently receiving appreciation for her performance in the Netflix series. In a recent interview, the actress also spoke candidly about her career journey, her decision to stay away from Yash Raj Films despite her family ties, and her close bond with Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji.

Speaking about Aditya Chopra, Jyoti had nothing but praise for the filmmaker. She described him as "the best brother-in-law anyone could ask for" and said one of his most admirable qualities is his ability to keep the entire family united with ease. According to the actress, Aditya naturally brings everyone together and plays an important role in maintaining close family bonds.


Though known for staying away from the public eye, Aditya received warm praise from Jyoti for his role within the family rather than his achievements as a filmmaker.

Why Jyoti Mukerji never worked with Yash Raj Films

Despite being related to one of Bollywood's most renowned film families, Jyoti revealed that she consciously chose not to work with Yash Raj Films in the early stages of her career.

During a conversation with Rediff, the actress explained that she wanted to build her own identity instead of relying on family connections.

She said, "What they don't see is the number of rejections I went through. Even if someone helps you get your first opportunity, you can't sustain a career unless you know your craft. I wanted people to hire me because they believed in my work, not because I was related to someone. I didn't want my hard work to be overshadowed by conversations about family connections."

She added that she could have chosen an easier path but intentionally opted for the more difficult one because she wanted her work to speak for itself instead of her surname or family relationships.

Jyoti also opened up about her relationship with Rani Mukerji, saying she sees the actor as much more than just a sister-in-law.

She shared that she never had a sibling growing up but now feels as though she has found one in Rani. According to Jyoti, they share a close relationship where she can openly discuss anything without hesitation. She also said she avoids talking too much about their bond publicly because she fears it might get "jinxed."

The actress praised Rani for being deeply devoted to her family. She said the Mardaani star's world revolves around her loved ones and admired the way she looks after her parents and showers affection on Jyoti's children.

While Jyoti described Rani as warm and affectionate at home, she said the actor transforms completely when she steps onto a film set.

According to her, Rani approaches every project with complete focus, dedication and commitment. She said the actor believes in preparation but also values spontaneity in her performances. Once the cameras start rolling, Rani remains fully immersed in her work and gives her undivided attention to the role.

Jyoti also talked about Rani's discipline and punctuality, calling them qualities she deeply admires. She revealed that Rani is always on time for work and said she often tells her own daughter to learn from that habit.

On the professional front, Jyoti Mukerji recently appeared in Ikka alongside Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, a project she says taught her a great deal by simply observing the experienced actors at work.

She made her film debut with Maharaj, starring Junaid Khan, which premiered globally on Netflix in 2024. Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, the historical drama was based on the landmark Maharaj Libel Case of 1862.

Apart from films, Jyoti has built an extensive television career with shows including Tera Mera Saath Rahe, Durga Aur Charu, Dear Ishq, Bhagya Lakshmi, Suhagan Chudail, Iss Ishq Ka Rabb Rakha, Ami Dakini and Jhanak. She was also seen alongside Rani Mukerji in Mardaani 3.
