A chance meeting with Salman Khan changed her life. From Mumbai chawl to owning two homes in Mumbai at 26, actress Mahima Makwana overcame years and years of financial struggle

Among the cast members, fans have been discussing Mahima's inspiring journey. The actress plays Preeti in the slice-of-life romance drama series and has been receiving praise for her performance. However, her path to success was not easy. Before becoming a familiar face in films and OTT, Mahima faced years of financial struggles and took on responsibilities at a very young age.

From travelling across Mumbai in buses for auditions as a child to becoming the family's sole earning member, Mahima's journey is a story of determination. Today, the actress has built a successful career and owns two homes in Mumbai, but her early years were filled with challenges that shaped her life.

Lost father at five months, started auditions at nine

Mahima Makwana entered the entertainment industry as a child, but acting was never something she had initially dreamed of. In a 2021 appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, the actress opened up about the difficult circumstances that pushed her towards acting.


Mahima revealed that she lost her father when she was only five months old. Her mother, who worked at an NGO, raised her and her elder brother while managing the family's responsibilities. According to Mahima, her mother always wanted to become an actress but could not pursue that dream, which encouraged her to guide Mahima towards acting.

The actress recalled that she began attending auditions at the age of nine. She would go to school for half a day, travel across Mumbai by bus for auditions and return home exhausted. Mahima said she initially had no interest in acting and did not understand the industry, but she continued because she wanted to support her family.

She also shared that her childhood was different from other children.

“There was nobody else earning in the family. We lived in a chawl, and people, including relatives, often looked down upon us."

Mother's dream became her biggest motivation

For Mahima, success was not just about becoming an actress. It was connected to a promise she made to herself and her mother.

The actress once recalled, "One day my mother told me that before she left this world, she wanted to own a house."

Her first major breakthrough came with Zee TV's popular show Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke in 2012. Mahima was only 13 years old when the show became a success and changed her family's financial situation.

The actress later revealed that after the success of the show, she bought her first home in Mira Road when she was just 14 years old. She also purchased her first car at that age, marking a major achievement after years of struggle.

However, Mahima admitted that success came with sacrifices. She said she missed out on regular school life and college experiences because of her work commitments. The actress explained that she grew up much earlier than she should have because of the responsibilities she carried.

How Salman Khan became a turning point in her career

Mahima continued to build her career with television shows including Rishton Ka Chakravyuh, Mariam Khan and Shubharambh. She later expanded her work into films and digital platforms.

Her Bollywood debut came with Antim: The Final Truth, where she shared screen space with Salman Khan and Aayush Sharma. Mahima once spoke about how a meeting with Salman became an important moment in her journey.

In an interview with Mid Day, Mahima said she believed everything happened at the right time. She recalled, "I believe that everything happens at the perfect time. When a film is made, a lot of stories are attached to it. My story began when I met Salman [Khan] sir on Bigg Boss. It feels surreal that a meeting back then played a big role in changing my life."

She added that working with Salman Khan and filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar on Antim felt special because they believed in her abilities. According to the actress, being part of a project that combined strong content with commercial appeal was a dream come true.

Mahima made her Telugu film debut with Venkatapuram in 2017 before moving into digital entertainment with Rangbaaz 2. She later appeared in films and shows including Tumse Na Ho Payega and Showtime.

With Musafir Cafe, Mahima has once again returned to the spotlight.
