Singapore's flag carrier has named Aswin K as its new General Manager, India, effective August 1, returning a 12-year company veteran to a key market for the airline.

Aswin succeeds Sy Yen Chen, who served as Singapore Airlines’ India general manager for more than five years. In his new role, Aswin will oversee the airline’s operations across India and lead its growth strategy while strengthening relationships with customers, travel trade partners and key industry stakeholders.

A 12-year SIA veteran takes charge in India

Aswin joined Singapore Airlines in 2014 as an Aviation Network Analyst and has since held several roles spanning network planning, marketing and commercial operations.

He subsequently served as Regional Marketing Manager for West Asia and Africa before becoming State Manager for Karnataka and Telangana, based in Bengaluru.

He later took charge as General Manager, Gulf and Middle East, where he oversaw Singapore Airlines’ commercial operations across the region.

Before returning to India, Aswin served as General Manager, Italy, a position he took up in 2024.

His mandate will also include deepening ties with travel trade partners, customers and other industry stakeholders.

Aswin succeeds Sy Yen Chen after five years

Aswin takes over from Sy Yen Chen, who led Singapore Airlines’ India operations for more than five years.

The airline said Chen’s leadership and experience contributed significantly to its growth in the Indian market during his tenure.

The appointment comes as India continues to gain importance for international airlines, with rising demand for overseas travel and an expanding aviation market.

Singapore Airlines is also a shareholder in Air India, holding a 25.1% stake in the Tata Group-owned airline following the completion of the Air India-Vistara merger.
