The announcement comes as Assam grapples with widespread devastation caused by floods. The death toll has risen to 68, while more than 4.45 lakh people across six districts remain affected, according to the latest official data. Although floodwaters have begun receding in several areas, authorities have shifted their focus from rescue operations to relief and rehabilitation.
Earlier this week, the Centre announced that a high-level team would visit the state to assess the damage and facilitate assistance, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the flood situation with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and assured full support for relief and rebuilding efforts.
