Lancaster University to set up Bengaluru campus, eyes KWIN City expansion: MB Patil

Bengaluru: UK's Lancaster University plans to establish its first campus in Bengaluru and plans to set up another campus at Karnataka's proposed Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation (KWIN) city, industries minister M B Patil said in a post on X after meeting a high-level delegation from the university.

The delegation was led by associate dean of the university Mark Stevenson. Also present at the meeting were Paul Lovegrove, CEO of Navitas' European University partnerships initiatives, Vikas Panjwani, head of global strategy, and Janaka Pushpanathan, director for South India at the British Council.

According to Patil, the Bengaluru campus will initially offer degree programmes in business, management and computing, with the curriculum and academic standards aligned with those of the university's UK campus.


He said the initiative would provide Indian students access to internationally recognised education closer to home while strengthening industry-academia collaboration.

Patil added that Lancaster University also plans to establish a campus at KWIN City, the state's upcoming integrated knowledge and innovation hub. He added that the presence of leading international institutions would strengthen the project's higher education ecosystem and enhance its global appeal.

Founded in 1964, Lancaster University is a member of the UK's Russell Group of research-intensive universities and holds a five-star QS rating.

The university has international teaching partnerships and branch campuses across multiple countries and is expanding its presence in India under the University Grants Commission's regulations for foreign higher education institutions.
