New Delhi: The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited expressions of interest to identify carbon dioxide suppliers for green urea and renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO)-compliant green methanol projects.

The exercise aims to map potential carbon dioxide sources that can support upcoming green chemical projects. SECI has sought information from industries and other entities capable of supplying carbon dioxide for use in the production of green urea and green methanol.

According to the tender document, the exercise is intended to identify available carbon dioxide sources and assess their suitability for these emerging sectors. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for August 18 while bids will close on September 17.

Green methanol and green urea require carbon dioxide along with green hydrogen produced through electrolysis powered by renewable electricity. Securing reliable and compliant carbon dioxide supplies will be critical to scaling domestic production and meeting sustainability standards, particularly for export-oriented fuels such as RFNBO-compliant green methanol.

The initiative comes as India seeks to build a domestic green hydrogen ecosystem and expand downstream products, including green ammonia, methanol and urea, to help decarbonise industry and create new export opportunities.
