L&T secures order from NTPC for 1,600 MW thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh

L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a business vertical of engineering major Larsen & Toubro, has secured a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from state-run NTPC Ltd for the main plant package of the 2x800 MW Lara Stage-III thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh, the company said in a stock exchange filing on Thursday.

The formal Notice to Proceed will be issued once the project receives environmental clearance and the LNTP period is completed, L&T said. Based on the company's own order classification, the contract falls in the "Mega" category, valued between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore.

The project involves construction of two 800 MW ultra-supercritical generating units. L&T's scope covers design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of boilers, steam turbines, generators, electrostatic precipitators and air-cooled condensers, along with associated mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation, and civil works.

The contract will be executed on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis using ultra-supercritical technology, which offers higher efficiency and lower specific emissions compared with conventional thermal technology. Once operational, the plant will add 1,600 MW of baseload generation capacity to the national grid, supporting electricity demand driven by industrial expansion, urbanisation and infrastructure growth.

T Madhava Das, whole-time director and senior executive vice-president and head of the energy hydrocarbon division at L&T, said the award marks the company's third ultra-supercritical project from NTPC in the past two years. He said the order reflects the trust India's largest power utility continues to place in L&T's engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities, and added that the company remains committed to executing the project with high standards of quality, safety and operational excellence.

L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions focuses on providing solutions for power generation and low-carbon processes, combining in-house engineering, manufacturing and project execution expertise with partnerships with global engineering and manufacturing firms.

Larsen & Toubro is a $32 billion Indian multinational operating across EPC projects, hi-tech manufacturing, and products and services.

The filing was made to the BSE and the National Stock Exchange, and was signed by Subramanian Narayan, company secretary and compliance officer.
