BHEL's scope of work covers manufacturing and supplying the eight gas turbine generator packages, along with overseeing their erection and commissioning at the project site. The equipment will be manufactured at BHEL's facilities in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
The order is a significant milestone for BHEL, marking the company's largest-ever single order for gas turbine generator packages on a supply-and-supervision basis, both in quantity and value. It is expected to further strengthen BHEL's global visibility and reaffirm its capabilities as an international engineering enterprise.
BHEL has built a strong footprint across Africa through power sector projects in countries including Egypt, Ethiopia, Libya, Rwanda, Senegal and Sudan, apart from supplying equipment to several other nations on the continent. The company had earlier executed an order for the supply and commissioning supervision of a 26 MW gas turbine generator package for the government of Cross River State, Nigeria.
BHEL has been manufacturing and supplying gas turbines to customers in India and abroad for over four decades and is among the world's leading gas turbine and generator manufacturers. It has supplied close to 250 gas turbines to date, with more than 20 per cent delivered to overseas customers.
