Tender floated to import 1.7 mt urea ahead of rabi season

NEW DELHI: India has floated a global tender to import 1.7 million tonnes (mt) of urea to bolster fertiliser supplies ahead of the upcoming rabi crop season.

Indian Potash Ltd (IPL) has invited bids for one mt of granular or prilled urea for delivery at India's west coast and 700,000 tonnes for the east coast, according to a tender notice dated September 23.

India's urea imports more than doubled to 4.75 mt during April-August from 2.04 mt during the same period in 2025, even as domestic production increased 4.4% to 12.54 mt, industry insiders said, citing FAI data.
