Mother Dairy has raised the prices of milk across the categories beginning last week by Re 1/litre, citing non-availability of SMP and the mismatch in demand and supply of milk products.
Cabinet secretary BK Chaturvedi, chaired a meeting of the committee of secretaries earlier last week to review the price situation vis-��-vis milk, wheat, sugar, aviation fuel and other petroleum products.
It���s a part of the government���s strategy to reign in inflation and blunt the impact on prices of essential commodities.
However, commerce ministry is apprehensive that India may lose its foothold in the external markets if a ban on milk exports is imposed.
