New Delhi: Sanya Sharma, a 12th-grade Gurugram student, developed an indigenous wearable platform designed to help identify early signs of health concerns in horses.

The development would likely to address India's growing dependency on imports for advanced equine monitoring technologies from European and other overseas markets.

Unlike conventional equine monitoring devices that typically measure a single health parameter, the Indian solution EquiSense AI uses a multi-sensor approach, capturing heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), body temperature, movement via an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), Electrodermal Activity (EDA/GSR) and environmental conditions.


"EquiSenseAI is my effort to bridge that communication gap using technology and behavioural science," Sharma said.

The collected data is analysed through machine learning models to identify behavioural and physiological patterns, enabling caregivers to receive timely alerts alongside explanations that support
informed decision-making.

EquiSense AI has also received encouraging market validation. Following product trials, Sterling Stables placed a paid order for the wearable after evaluating its performance in monitoring horse health," Praveen Jhakhar, Director, Sterling Stables told ET.

Once approved for commercial foray, the product would cut dependency on imports.

"We have relied on imported technologies for equine monitoring. Sanya's innovation demonstrates that an advanced, Made-in-India solution can be developed locally. We were
impressed with the results during testing and are confident about its commercial potential,” Jhakhar added.

"EquiSense AI prototype was developed at an estimated hardware cost of approximately ₹8,000, integrating multiple physiological and behavioural indicators into a single platform at a significantly lower cost. In contrast, imported products range between of ₹25,0000 - ₹28,0000," Sunil Kumar, Head Coach, GG Equestrian Sports Academy said.
