Maruti starts commercial production at Hansalpur facility; capacity goes up to 1 million units per annum

New Delhi: Maruti, the country’s largest carmaker, said Thursday it started commenced commercial production at its fourth plant in Hansalpur manufacturing facility, in Gujarat, raising total production capacity to 1 million units per annum.

The plant will produce the battery electric vehicle, “e VITARA”.

This marks the first time in parent Suzuki's history that the total annual production capacity of a single manufacturing facility has reached 1 million units.


Suzuki currently operates four manufacturing facilities in India: Gurugram, Manesar, Hansalpur, and Kharkhoda. With the introduction of the new plant, Suzuki’s total annual production capacity in India will reach 2.9 million units.

In addition, Maruti Suzuki reached a basic agreement with the Government of Gujarat in January 2024 regarding the construction of a new plant in Sanand, which will become its second manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The plant is planned to commence production by 2029, with the initial annual production capacity of 250,000 units.

Suzuki will continue to expand its production capacity in India and aims to establish annual production of 4 million units in 2030s.
