YouTube outage today: When will it be back up? Are YouTube Music and Google Search also down?

YouTube has acknowledged a loading issue is affecting users who are trying to watch videos. But it has not said when the problem will be fixed. The company confirmed on Wednesday, October 28, that it was aware of the disruption and was working on a solution as reports of playback problems continued to surface.

Users have reported videos failing to load, buffering repeatedly and displaying black screens instead of the video player. The outage has also drawn attention to problems accessing YouTube Shorts, according to reports covering the disruption.

YouTube Outage Today: What Problems Are Users Facing

The problems appear in different forms. Some users encounter a “Video unavailable” message, while others find videos stuck in a loading or buffering loop and in some cases, the video player displays a black screen.

Complaints involved YouTube videos and Shorts, including playback errors. Reports on Downdetector also rose sharply during the disruption.

According to Windows Report, YouTube had received more than 22,000 user reports at one point, compared with a baseline of around 27. Sportskeeda later reported that complaints had climbed above 24,000.

These figures reflect reports submitted by users to Downdetector and don't show a confirmed count of people affected and the numbers may change as users report new problems.

What Has YouTube Said About the Outage

YouTube has confirmed that it is aware of the loading issues and is working on a fix.

In a post on its official Help Community, the company marked the problem as a “Known Issue.”

The company said, “We've seen reports of loading issues with YouTube, rest assured we're working on a fix now!"

YouTube listed several problems users might encounter, including “Video unavailable” messages, videos stuck loading or buffering, and black screens where the video player should appear. It also invited users to report other types of issues and said it would update the thread when more information became available.

The company has not announced a specific time for the fix or confirmed when normal service will be restored. Users can check the official YouTube Help Community update and TeamYouTube's post on X for further information.

When Will YouTube Be Back Up

There is no confirmed recovery time yet. YouTube has said it is working on the problem, but its statement does not indicate how long the fix will take.

Users who are still unable to play videos will need to wait for the company's next update to learn whether the issue has been resolved.

Are Other Google Services Affected

Sportskeeda also reported complaints involving YouTube Music and Google Search during the same period. Its report cited more than 500 reports concerning YouTube Music and around 140 involving Google Search.

At the time covered by the report, Google's Workspace Status Dashboard listed its services as operational, with no incidents reported.
