‘You better lawyer up’: Ilhan Omar takes aim at Trump, says the ‘bigot in the White House’ should not have messed with Minnesota
Ilhan Omar marked her re-election victory in Minnesota, framing the results as a strong repudiation of Donald Trump's presidency. She stressed the vital role of community engagement and voter participation as a response to the administration's pol...

“This is what it looks like when we lead with compassion, empathy, and courage. This is what it looks like when you give a damn about your neighbors,” the 44-year-old said. Omar, who was projected to win re-election, got over 76% of the counted vote, said Minnesotans had responded to the administration’s actions by standing up for their communities and taking their message to the ballot box.
“When this administration came for Minnesotans, we knew that we could respond by showing up in the streets and protecting our neighbors, but we also knew when election day came that we were going to provide an answer,” she said.
She added that every vote was an opportunity to send a message to the administration that “Minnesota is not the place you mess with.”
The victory came amid federal scrutiny involving Omar last month. Her Washington, DC, home was raided by Homeland Security Investigations agents on October 12, 2026. The probes include questions about her immigration status and financial disclosures.
“They thought that if you attacked me and you silenced me that my community wouldn't show up and vote,” she added.
The Minnesota congresswoman then turned her attention directly to Trump, referring to him as the “bigot in the White House” and saying the election results were a rejection of his administration and its friends.
“What we are seeing tonight, it is about telling this administration, it's about telling the bigot in the White House and his friends that we are not going to be a pawn in their game,” Omar said.
“He said you better lawyer up,” she told her uplifted supporters. Omar then added her own warning: “Because your time of harassment is over, it is our time for accountability and transparency.” She concluded by saying that Democrats would approach their next phase differently, adding: “And if you thought that the Democrats took it easy on you in 2019, wait until you meet these kind of new Democrats.”
