How will the world employment crisis impact Americans?
Online gigs: Freelancers could be impacted in the U.S. - Over 154 million online gig workers in developing countries compete for software, design, and commercial service contracts, expanding global talent pools for U.S. firms while creating wage pressures on domestic freelancers.
Migration: When people struggle to find jobs in their home countries, some may decide to move abroad in search of better opportunities. If unemployment remains high in developing nations, it could increase migration pressures, including towards the United States.
Other than the risks, the U.S. also has a chance to turn these adversities into opportunities; Closing the gap requires massive infrastructure capital ($112 billion in private capital was mobilized by the World Bank Group in FY26), enabling U.S. investors and corporations to capture high-growth market yields abroad.
