Referred to as 'your barefoot BFF', Laurent had managed to gather more than 43,000 followers in her Instagram account, where she was always busy posting pictures and videos of her travel experiences.

According to the New York Post, Laurent referred to herself as being between two suitcases, which was an indication of her love for traveling to new destinations.

According to the New York Post, Laurent died on October 9, 2026, after the pickup truck carrying her and two other women was swept away while attempting to cross the Nahualapa River in northern Nicaragua.

The accident happened around 1 AM near the community of El Manzano in the Chinandega region. The vehicle, identified as a Toyota Hilux, was being driven by Martin Gerardo Garcia Giron, who was reportedly the only person to survive.

The other two victims were identified as 20-year-old Swiss national Noe Luscher and Nicaraguan hotel worker Karen Lopez Montano.

According to local reports cited by the New York Post, the river is generally considered calm. However, heavy rainfall had caused the water level to rise, creating powerful currents that made crossing extremely dangerous.

As the driver attempted to navigate the river, the rushing water overwhelmed the vehicle and swept it away. All three women drowned, while Garcia Giron managed to escape.

Nicaragua's co-president Rosario Murillo addressed the incident and warned about the dangers of crossing rivers during severe weather.

"They crossed a river at the time when they [shouldn't have]," Murillo said, according to the New York Post.

"Rivers are deceptive. You think they are calm and suddenly the current comes and we have tragedies like this."

Authorities have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, including how the truck overturned.
