Tsetyin built the residence inspired by the popular Winter Palace in St. Petersburg

The Saddle River estate, which is only a short drive from Manhattan, was inspired by the Winter Palace in Russia’s St. Petersburg. The Winter Palace is one of the most famous buildings in St. Petersburg, on the southern bank of the Neva River. The palace served as the official residence for the House of Romanov, Russia’s last imperial dynasty which ruled for over 300 years.

The palace is estimated to be spread across an area of about 1.52 million square feet. The massive palace has 1,500 rooms, 117 staircases, 1,945 windows and 1,886 doors. The storming of the palace in 1917 is regarded as a huge symbol for the October Revolution.

Tsetyin said he lived close to the palace and wanted touches of it in New Jersey. He said that several materials used in the making for his US residence were brought from Russia and that several people from the country also worked on the house. He added that he made several trips to and from Russia for the project.
