The incident occurred on October 5, 2026 (Monday), when the second lady was set to board a flight to Alaska to join her husband, and vice president JD Vance will be campaigning in the run-up to the midterm elections.
A video of the brief incident surfaced on social media showing Usha Vance holding her youngest child, 10-week-old infant Alec Neel Vance, strapped to her chest in a baby carrier. Alec is among four children she shares with JD Vancel, including 9-year-old son Ewan, 6-year-old son Vivek, and 4-year-old daughter Mirabel.
In the 26-second-long video clip, Usha can be seen holding on to a banister as she nearly tripped on one of the staircase steps. Despite losing her balance briefly, she was quick to regain her footing as she cradled Alec. The clip also shows her turning swiftly to the banister, taking a moment to regain her composure, and smiling at the nearby officer.
She maintained her smile as she patted Alec’s back while the two waited for the vice president, 42, and Mirabel to exit the helicopter. From there, the Vance family walked over to the nearby jet. They have accompanied the vice president on a trip to Anchorage, Alaska. He is scheduled to speak at a Republican National Committee rally in support of Senator Dan Sullivan, who is up for reelection.
This is notably one of Usha Vance’s few appearances since she gave birth to Alec on July 19, 2026. During her pregnancy, she announced a new podcast called ‘Storytime with the Second Lady’.
