Two former San Francisco police officers and their daughter were found deceased in a house in Marin County, California, after deputies responded to a call of gunfire Sunday evening, October 11. The deaths have led to an ongoing investigation by local law enforcement authorities, but media outlets have named the two former officers as Kevin Mannix and Ann Mannix.

As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, Kevin Mannix, 68 years old, killed his estranged wife, Ann Mannix, 65 years old, and his 24-year-old daughter, Katie, before shooting himself dead. The Marin County Sheriff's Office did not confirm or identify the alleged victims in its public statements.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office said it received a 911 call of gunfire inside a home on Strawberry Circle in Strawberry, an unincorporated area near Mill Valley, shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday.

The deputies arrived shortly thereafter and made contact with the individual who called for assistance and was out of the house at the time. The officers established a perimeter and went into the house to discover three individuals deceased.

The sheriff's office said detectives were processing the scene as the investigation continued. Officials also sought to reassure residents about their immediate safety, stating: “There is no known threat to the community.”

Who were Kevin and Ann Mannix?

Kevin and Ann Mannix were veteran members of the San Francisco Police Department who had retired after many years of service. Kevin Mannix retired as a sergeant in June 2018 after serving for 27 years at the department, reported the outlet.

Ann Mannix was also a veteran of the department, served in its ranks and eventually became a deputy chief. As per the San Francisco Chronicle, she became the first woman to join the SFPD's SWAT team and then became the first woman to head it. She retired from the department in 2021.

According to the sheriff's office, the investigation is still in its initial stages and further information would be provided as it comes up.
