Today Show Halloween 2026: Today Show celebrates Network’s centennial with Halloween costumes inspired by Friends, SNL and more
The Today Show turned its Halloween event into a nostalgic walk through NBC history on Friday, October 30. This year’s theme celebrated NBC’s 100th anniversary, bringing back some of television’s most familiar characters. Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Jenna Bush Hager and their co‑stars wore costumes that were inspired by sitcoms, late‑night television and popular NBC personalities. Special appearances by Martha Stewart and 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer added to the fun.

How did the Today show celebrate NBC’s 100th anniversary?

The Halloween special opened with a black-and-white sketch imagining NBC’s first broadcast. Guthrie and Melvin appeared as old-fashioned television anchors before the show moved into a playful tour of 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

“Welcome to 30 Rock. I’m Savannah, and I’ll be your page today,” Guthrie announced. “And you’re here at NBC at a very special time. We’re celebrating 100 years!”

Guthrie changed into an NBC page uniform and welcomed her fellow hosts as tourists. Melvin played Greg from North Carolina, Roker became Bob from Oswego, Carson Daly appeared as Kyle from Boise, and Bush Hager took on the role of Tammi from Texas.

The tour then stopped at The Tonight Show, where Willie Geist appeared as Johnny Carson’s famous character Carnac the Magnificent. Wearing the character’s trademark turban, Geist delivered one of Carnac’s familiar jokes.

“Sis boom bah,” Geist said. “Describe the sound made when a sheep explodes!”

Which classic TV characters did the hosts bring back

The group next explored NBC’s prop department, where Dylan Dreyer appeared as Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie. She wore the character’s pink-and-red outfit and used her magical powers to change the weather.

The celebration also brought back the world of Friends. Guthrie dressed as Rachel Green, recreating the famous argument about whether Rachel and Ross were on a break. Bush Hager became Phoebe Buffay, complete with a guitar and a performance of “Smelly Cat.” The sketch even featured a real cat to complete the joke.

More pop culture faces join the Halloween fun

The hosts also looked beyond NBC’s fictional characters. Daly dressed as country singer Ella Langley, wearing her signature bangs and a red cowboy-inspired outfit. He lip-synced to her hit song, explaining to TODAY.com, “She’s a huge breakout star, I’m a music guy and I thought this would be a lot of fun to do.”

Melvin took on Snoop Dogg’s look in a Team USA uniform. Martha Stewart, Snoop’s real-life friend, made a surprise appearance to support the costume. The Today Halloween special was part of a wider pop culture celebration across daytime television. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos also dressed as memorable entertainment moments from the year, while Jennifer Hudson chose a magical, enchanted look. The inputs are taken from E!
